High Pressure Piston/ Plunger Pumps

Among the most recognized types of positive displacement pumps are piston and plunger pumps. Known for their ability to deliver very high pressures at low flow rates, these pumps have long been used in specialized industrial applications where precision and force are critical.

Unlike centrifugal pumps that rely on velocity to move fluids, piston and plunger pumps operate using a linear reciprocating motion to create flow and pressure.

Piston and plunger pumps operate through a back-and-forth (reciprocating) motion inside a cylinder. This movement alternately increases and decreases the working volume within the pump chamber, enabling fluid suction and discharge.

Piston Pumps : In piston pumps, a disc-shaped piston moves to and fro inside a hollow cylinder. The sealing system is attached to the outer diameter of the piston. As the piston retracts, fluid is drawn into the cylinder. As it moves forward, the fluid is pressurized and discharged.

Plunger Pumps : Plunger pumps operate similarly, but instead of a piston with external seals, a plunger slides back and forth through a stuffing box. The sealing arrangement is stationary, allowing the plunger to move through it. This design is particularly effective for handling extremely high pressures.
